Jordan Henderson sends touching message to Liverpool fans after Brentford beat Reds in reunion - 'Holds a special place in my heart'

Jordan Henderson spoke candidly to TNT Sports following Brentford's 3-2 win over Liverpool on Saturday, reflecting on his 12 years at Liverpool and how much the club still means to him despite a painful exit in 2023. It was his first reunion with The Reds, who suffered a fourth straight defeat in the Premier League as Arne Slot's title defence appears to be falling apart already.

Jordan Henderson delivered a heartwarming message to Liverpool fans after he faced his former side for the first time since leaving Anfield in the summer of 2023.
He led Brentford to a deserved 3-2 win over the champions, marking Liverpool's fourth league defeat on the bounce as their Premier League title defence was left in disarray.
But for Henderson, it was a reunion with the club he captained to UEFA Champions League and Premier League glory.
"I had been at Liverpool for so long, it’s deep inside us now and will be forever," Henderson told TNT Sports.
"It was my life for 12 years so it was a little bit strange, but I knew once the whistle went it was business as usual, I would be focused, ready to go and in the right frame of mind, which I was.
"So once the whistle went I was fully in and felt as good as I ever have."
The 35-year-old previously described his painful exit from Liverpool as a "break-up" when he left to join Al-Ettifaq, then managed by former team-mate Steven Gerrard.
He mutually terminated his contract with the Saudi Pro League club in January 2024 before heading to Ajax, until the club agreed to end his contract a year early this summer.

But despite heaping more pressure on Slot's side, Henderson was welcomed by the travelling Reds fans at the Gtech Community Stadium.
"I was there 12 years, dedicated a lot of my life," he continued. "My kids were born there, so it holds a special place in my heart.
"I still want Liverpool to do well - of course not when we’re playing them, but overall - and that’ll never change.
"And the fans have always been amazing, and it was special just to see a few of them. I know they probably left a bit early because of the result, but it was nice to see them again."
In the twilight of his career, Henderson is still proving he has plenty to offer in the Premier League and, ironically, seems to be the type of player that Liverpool would benefit from having currently.
Before the game, Slot praised the midfielder and mentioned that people in the Netherlands still talk about missing him at Ajax.
"I feel pretty good, to be honest, but I don’t really like talking about myself - it’s more about the team and I feel as though the team have performed really well so far this season," Henderson said.
"At the start, I thought we were a little bit inconsistent but over the last few weeks we’ve built a bit of momentum, a bit of consistency, which is important.
"It’s always nice for Arne to say nice things. I’m not sure they are missing me though, to be fair.
"I think there are a few reasons why maybe it’s not going so well at the minute at Ajax, but it’s an amazing club and I had a really good time there."

After stuttering at the beginning of the season as they adjusted to life without Thomas Frank, Brentford are gathering momentum and find themselves in 10th, just two points behind Liverpool. A trip to Crystal Palace is next.
"I think we just take each game as it comes and try and be horrible to play against," Henderson said about Brentford's aspirations.
"Try and compete every time we set foot on the pitch and that’s all you can ever do, that’s what the lads have done fantastically well.
"We’ve got some dangerous players and we’ve defended well over the last few games as well.
"So we need to keep building on momentum, keep building on performances and try to stay as consistent as possible because in the Premier League, no game’s easy.
"It’s always a tough game and things can change very quickly. We’ve just got to keep looking to improve.
"There are a lot of good things we’ve done tonight, but there is still a lot that we can improve on and keep building."
