James Maddison is likely to miss the majority of the 2025/26 season after Tottenham Hotspur confirmed that the midfielder had ruptured his ACL. He was stretchered off in the pre-season friendly against Newcastle United in Seoul. It is the same knee which ruled Maddison out of the Europa League final. Following Son Heung-min's departure, Maddison's injury diminishes Thomas Frank's forward options.

Tottenham Hotspur have suffered a massive setback ahead of the new season after the club confirmed that James Maddison will undergo surgery after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee.
The England international sustained the injury during Spurs' pre-season game against Newcastle United in South Korea.
Following that match in Seoul, manager Thomas Frank revealed that it was a problem with the same right knee which kept Maddison out of the UEFA Europa League final win over Manchester United.
A club statement read as follows: "We can confirm that James Maddison will undergo surgery for a ruptured Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) in his right knee.
"The 28-year-old midfielder suffered the injury during our pre-season friendly against Newcastle United on Sunday in Seoul.
"His surgery will take place in the coming days and, following that, James will then begin his rehabilitation with our medical team.
"Everyone at Tottenham Hotspur wishes James a full and speedy recovery. We will be supporting him every step of the way."
Spurs returned from their pre-season tour of Asia, and Maddison's injury has since been assessed to confirm the worst-case scenario.
Maddison has made 75 appearances for Spurs, scoring 16 goals and registering 21 assists since arriving from Leicester City in July 2023.
Frank will now have to reconsider his forward options, after being left short in that area following the departure of Son Heung-min to LAFC.
The club are in UEFA Super Cup action against Paris Saint-Germain next Wednesday, before beginning their Premier League campaign at home to Burnley on August 16.
