Inside Postecoglou sacking: Ange heads for car park, Edu 'in the corridor' and Nottingham Forest players called to boardroom

Ange Postecoglou's Nottingham Forest reign came to an end after just 39 days when his sacking was confirmed within minutes of full-time after Saturday's 3-0 Premier League defeat to Chelsea. News of the former Tottenham Hotspur boss' dismissal "surprised everyone" in the City Ground tunnel, according to TNT Sports reporter Jules Breach, who explained how events unfolded on the ground.

Ange Postecoglou’s rapid dismissal in the wake of Nottingham Forest’s defeat to Chelsea "surprised everyone" in the City Ground tunnel, according to TNT Sports reporter Jules Breach.
Only a few minutes passed between the full-time whistle sounding in a 3-0 win for The Blues and the Australian’s sacking being confirmed by the club on Saturday.
Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis ominously left his seat when the hosts conceded twice in three minutes early in the second half to all-but ensure that Postecoglou would be unable to claim the first win of his tortured tenure.
The former Tottenham Hotspur manager’s dismissal came after just 39 days in the job, leaving him with a record of two draws and six defeats in eight games.
Marinakis was so swift with the sacking – his second of the season following the firing of Nuno Espirito Santo in September – that Postecoglou had not yet had time to appear for post-match interviews when the news broke.
Breach was in the tunnel at the City Ground as the events unfolded, and explained what transpired on a dramatic day in the Midlands.

"Despite the fact that there was so much noise about this potentially happening before the match, I still think the timing and the way this has happened has surprised everyone, certainly down here in the tunnel and in the interview room as well," Breach said.
"I was interviewing Morgan Gibbs-White about the match when the news dropped. So as soon as the interview finished, that’s when we found out that Ange Postecoglou had been sacked as the Nottingham Forest manager.
"In that interview, Morgan Gibbs-White said that Ange Postecoglou addressed the players in the dressing room and talked about how frustrating it was that he could see improvements, the team could see improvements and progression, but they just weren’t putting the ball in the back of the net and were conceding sloppy goals.
"Morgan Gibbs-White’s opinion was that he still had full faith, and the team still had full faith, that Ange Postecoglou could turn things around. In terms of what the players might be feeling, I imagine they might be quite surprised that this news has happened.
"Just after that interview, Gibbs-White was taken back into the home dressing room with the other players and soon after that they were all taken up to the boardroom, where I imagine there will be quite a long meeting happening now.

"From what we saw down here in the tunnel, prior to that interview happening, Ange Postecoglou went into that home dressing room, spoke to the players, but then went down the other side of the tunnel area.
"We saw him come out of there and Edu was also in the corridor at that time, and Ange Postecoglou left with a bag on his back and went out towards the car park.
"At that point it seemed as though the writing was on the wall, but it wasn’t until a few minutes later that the news was confirmed.
"The players, as far as I’m aware, are still in the boardroom now having that meeting and Ange Postecoglou’s backroom staff including Mile Jedinak, who we’ve just seen outside, are actually still here.

"As far as we are aware, Ange Postecoglou has already left the stadium and is certainly no longer in the tunnel area."
Postecoglou's reign was the second-shortest in Premier League history after Sam Allardyce's 30-day spell with Leeds United in 2023.
