Liverpool were made to work but ultimately emerged victorious yet again as they came from a goal down to beat Southampton last weekend.
The result, coupled with Arsenal's failure to beat Manchester United, means that the Reds are now 15 points clear at the top of the table, and virtually have one hand on the trophy.
Liverpool’s remarkable campaign has been spearheaded by the unstoppable Mohamed Salah, who scored twice against the Saints to secure the win.
The Egyptian now has 27 league goals, as well as 17 assists this season.
The 32-year-old forward shows little sign of letting up and with Liverpool on the march towards the title, Salah has his eyes on several records as he embarks on an all-time great season in the Premier League.

Which Premier League records can Salah break this season?
Salah’s remarkable output at Liverpool sees him potentially looking to break the record for most goals scored in a Premier League season, and the most assists by a player in a Premier League season.
Should he hit either or both of the records, he would also end the season with the most goal contributions of any player in the competition’s history, dating back to the inaugural 1992/93 campaign.

How close is Salah to breaking the goals record?
Salah’s most recent goals in the Southampton win made it 27 for the campaign.
His total so far this campaign is only bettered by the 32 he scored in his debut season at the club in 2017/18, a target he is looking to surpass this time around.
| Premier League | Season | Goals |
| 1. Erling Haaland | 2022/23 | 36 |
| 2. Andrew Cole | 1993/94 | 34 |
| = Alan Shearer | 1994/95 | 34 |
| 4. Mohamed Salah | 2017/18 | 32 |
| 5. Luis Suarez | 2013/14 | 31 |
| 14. Mohamed Salah | 2024/25 | 27* |
Averaging a goal every 95 minutes at present, and assuming he plays the full duration of all of Liverpool’s remaining 9 fixtures, Salah is on course to score nine more goals this season, which would see him finish on 36 – equalling Haaland’s record from the 2022/23 campaign.
In his previously fruitful 2017/18 campaign, Salah averaged a goal every 91 minutes from fewer overall minutes on the pitch.
| Premier League | Season | Goals (Mins/Goal) |
| 1. Erling Haaland | 2022/23 | 36 (77) |
| 2. Papiss Cisse | 2011/12 | 13 (86) |
| 3. Harry Kane | 2016/17 | 29 (87) |
| 4. Cristiano Ronaldo | 2007/08 | 31 (89) |
| 5. Sergio Aguero | 2013/14 | 17 (91) |
| = Sergio Aguero | 2019/20 | 16 (91) |
| = Mohamed Salah | 2017/18 | 32 (91) |
| 8. Sergio Aguero | 2017/18 | 21 (94) |
| 9. Erling Haaland | 2023/24 | 27 (95) |
| = Fernando Torres | 2009/10 | 18 (95) |
| = Mohamed Salah | 2024/25 | 25 (95.3)* |
| 12. Luis Suarez | 2013/14 | 31 (96) |
| = Didier Drogba | 2009/10 | 29 (96) |
| 14. Sergio Aguero | 2014/15 | 26 (98) |
| = Robin van Persie | 2010/11 | 18 (98) |
| 16. Sergio Aguero | 2015/16 | 24 (99) |
| = Thierry Henry | 2005/06 | 27 (99) |
How about assists?
Salah now has 17 assists after 29 matches, which already has him at joint-seventh on the all-time list for a single season, four behind joint-leaders Thierry Henry, who recorded 20 in 2002/03, and Kevin De Bruyne, who notched up the same tally in 2019/20.

| 2. Kevin De Bruyne | 2019/20 | 20 |
| 3. Mesut Ozil | 2015/16 | 19 |
| 4. Frank Lampard | 2004/05 | 18 |

| = Cesc Fabregas | 2014/15 | 18 |
| 7. Cesc Fabregas | 2007/08 | 17 |
| = Mohamed Salah | 2024/25 | 17* |
| 9. Eric Cantona | 1992/93 | 16 |
| = Kevin De Bruyne | 2017/18 | 16 |
| = Kevin De Bruyne | 2022/23 | 16 |
Averaging an assist every 151 minutes, Salah would be on course to register five more for this season if he plays in every game.
| Premier League | Season | Assists (Mins/Assists) |
| 1. Cesc Fabregas | 2016/17 | 12 (111) |
| 2. Kevin De Bruyne | 2023/24 | 10 (123) |
| 3. Bukayo Saka | 2024/25 | 10 (128) |
| 4. Arjen Robben | 2004/05 | 9 (140) |
| = Kevin De Bruyne | 2019/20 | 20 (140) |
| = Ryan Giggs | 2001/02 | 12 (140) |
| Mohamed Salah | 2024/2025 | 17 (151)* |
What about total goal contributions?
His 44 goals and assists has him joint third on the all-time list, but crucially the joint-most for a 38 game campaign.
Although he is five behind Alan Shearer from 1994/95 and Andrew Cole in 1993/94, both players had identical records of 34 goals and 13 assists, but notably played in seasons when the Premier League was made up of 22 teams rather than the current 20, meaning over the course of the season, teams played four more matches.
Salah also now has more goal involvements than his own previous best from 2017/18.
| Premier League | Season | (Goals + Assists) Total |
| 1. Alan Shearer | 1994/95 | (34+13) 47 |
| = Andrew Cole | 1993/94 | (34+13) 47 |
| 3. Thierry Henry | 2002/03 | (24+20) 44 |
| = Erling Haaland | 2022/23 | (36 + 8) 44 |
| = Mohamed Salah | 2024/25 | (25+17) 44* |
| 6. Mohamed Salah | 2017/18 | (32+10) 42 |
Salah currently averages a goal involvement every 59 minutes this season, a quicker rate than any player in the history of the competition (minimum 1000 minutes played) and if he were to continue at this rate, would register 14 more contributions, obliterating the record.
| Premier League | Season | (Goals+Assists) Total | Mins/Goal Involvement |
| 1. Salah | 2024/25 | (25+17) 42 | 59* |
| 2. Haaland | 2022/23 | (36+8) 44 | 63 |
| 3. Aguero | 2013/14 | (17+6) 23 | 67 |
How close is he to scoring the most penalties in a PL season?
Salah's brace against Southampton saw both goals coming from the penalty spot, making it nine for the season and just two shy of the record of 11 in a single campaign scored by Everton hitman Andrew Johnson.
| Player | Season | Penalties Scored |
| Andrew Johnson | 2004/2005 | 11 |
| Steven Gerrard | 2013/2014 | 10 |
| Alan Shearer | 1994/1995 | 10 |
| Frank Lampard | 2009/2010 | 10 |
| Luka Milivojevic | 2018/2019 | 10 |
| Mohamed Salah | 2024/2025 | 9* |
| Bruno Fernandes | 2020/2021 | 9 |
| Cole Palmer | 2023/2024 | 9 |
How close is he to breaking all-time records?
With 184 Premier League goals (to date!) Salah is still some way off the record of 260 held by Shearer.
In terms of assists, his 86 is only just over halfway to Ryan Giggs' leading total of 162.
Will Salah win the PFA Player of the Year award?
There is little way of knowing for sure, but if we allow ourselves to speculate, then it is difficult to look beyond Liverpool’s star man this year.
Should he claim the award, he would become the first player to win it for a third time, having previously picked up the gong in 2017/18 and 2021/22.
What about the Ballon d’Or?
Remarkably, Salah has never even made the top three of the Ballon d’Or voting in the past, but has already been tipped for success this time around by former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger.
