Manchester United target Premier League title by 2028 in 'Project 150'

Manchester United have just endured one of their worst league seasons on record - the men’s team finishing a lowly 15th in a torrid campaign which also saw them defeated in the UEFA Europa League final. Chief executive Omar Berrada is standing by his claims that he wants them back in the top spot by 2028, as part of an ambitious 'Project 150' plan to celebrate 150 years of the club.

Manchester United chief executive Omar Berrada has made no secret of his lofty targets for the club, following a downturn in form which they have not experienced for generations.
Off the back of a season where they finished 15th in the table, lost the UEFA Europa League final to Tottenham Hotspur and thus will be without European football next season.
It would be easy to understand United setting realistic targets of making it back to the top half of the table, or the top six, as they try to rebuild under manager Ruben Amorim.
But Berrada has already spoken at length about ‘Project 150’, and it seems nothing has changed since that notion was first launched.
‘Project 150’ seeks to propel both the men’s and women’s teams back to the top of the table to celebrate the club’s 150th anniversary, after being founded as Newton Heath back in 1878.
"It's establishing a series of targets within a time frame so we can focus our efforts and energy on that goal," Berrada explained, as reported by BBC Sport.
"Can the team win the Premier League title by 2028? Of course.
"We've just finished 15th and it seems an impossible task. But why not aim for it? Why not do everything in our power?"
Amorim joined the club midway through the 2024-25 season and now has a better opportunity to build through pre-season and shape the men’s team as per his own vision.
But amidst a backdrop of so many redundancies, The Red Devils hardly look like a stable outfit capable of a strong run in the immediate future.

"I firmly believe we can do it," Berrada maintained.
"We have two or three summer windows to build a team to start competing to win the Premier League.
"Nobody is saying we don't want to win it until then. We're setting ourselves a target with a specific time frame to go and aim for.
"We have been a bit distracted with all the issues around the men's first team, but we are committed to making the women's team very successful.

"You've heard [minority owner] Jim [Ratcliffe] say, 'If you're wearing the United shirt then you must win'. That's exactly how I feel. A club of our scale has a responsibility to grow football in general and contribute to women's football."
The women's team also face a tough ask, with Chelsea the dominant side in the Women's Super League, having gone unbeaten in the previous campaign.
The men’s team will face stiff opposition in the form of champions Liverpool who are going from strength to strength under Arne Slot, a resurgent Arsenal unit and a hurting Manchester City side, with Pep Guardiola staying at City until 2027 and also looking for a swift return to the top.
"It won't be easy. There'll be some difficult moments ahead," Berrada continued.
"Nothing is going to get solved with one summer window, but we are on the right path.
"We've put the worst part of this transformation phase behind us and now we're going to start building. I'm very confident we'll get back to the top."
