DIALLO HAT-TRICK RESCUES MAN UTD
Amad Diallo’s late hat-trick broke Southampton’s hearts, as he ensured Manchester United came from behind to avoid what could have been a fourth straight home defeat, with a 3-1 victory.
The visitors, despite their lack of goals this season, were by far the better attacking side in the first half, only to find Andre Onana in their way.
The goalkeeper made a fingertip stop from Kamaldeen Sulemana, before a stunning double save as he kept out Tyler Dibling’s low shot and Mateus Fernandes’ point-blank range rebound.
However, the Saints eventually found a breakthrough late in the first half when a corner from the left, flicked on by Dibling, hit Manuel Ugarte on the back and dropped into the back of the net.
After the break, substitute Antony missed a sitter for the hosts, somehow failing to convert into an empty net from Alejandro Garnacho’s perfect cross, while Sulemana, having beaten Leny Yoro, shot wide of the far post at the other end.
It looked like Southampton would comfortably hold on for a draw, but The Red Devils equalised in the final 10 minutes when Diallo profited from an initial shot deflecting back into his path, and he made no mistake second time around, emphatically beating Aaron Ramsdale.
There was more to come, too, as Christian Eriksen’s stunning clipped pass over the defence released Diallo again in the dying minutes, and he brilliantly converted with his first touch.
And then the Ivorian completed his treble in the 94th minute, pouncing on a heavy touch from Taylor Harwood-Bellis and slotting into an empty net.
AMORIM: NO LACK OF ENTHUSIASM
"Playing in this stadium, we lost the last three games here. The pressure is different, because we try to press the opponent in the build-up, and you can feel the difficulties.
"Then, Mateus and Dibling between the lines created us a lot of problems. We have difficulties to press high in the moment. This team is not used to doing that.
"Then, it seems like a lack of enthusiasm. Ugarte's late. Kobbie Mainoo's late. Bruno going outside, the ball is inside. Then, one transition and Leny Yoro cannot catch the guy.
"These small things push the team behind, and then we get nervous without the ball.
"But then, when you have one click, one opportunity, one goal, you feel like the team can control better the game.
"I want to be fair with my players. Today was not a lack of enthusiasm. It was a lack of speed and sometimes a lack of control of the game."

AMORIM: DIALLO REALLY IMPORTANT
"Even in the first half, every time Amad has the ball, he can push the ball.
"Sometimes he doesn't take one player, but he pushes the other team to the final third inside the box. That type of player is really important.
"We didn't do a very good game, but in this moment, winning is the most important thing."

AMORIM: PLAYERS WERE TIRED
Ruben Amorim is now speaking to the TNT Sports team.
"In the end, it's good. A very difficult game. I think they did a very good job, Southampton, creating space between the lines, and then the No. 20, with a lot of space behind, we had some difficulties to stop that player.
"When they lose the physicality, in the last 30 minutes, we find the space to use and then we could change the game. The feeling is that we have so much to do.
"I felt the team were really tired. Liverpool, Arsenal, 120 minutes, and then it's not just tired, the physical part of the players, it's the mental part of the player. It was a win. It was good. Let's continue."

CARNEY: MAN UTD WILL BE GRATEFUL
"They'll just be grateful they got the result. For 60 minutes, they were poor and actually I thought to myself who's bottom of the table here? They got outplayed at times.
"Massively disappointed. You wanted them to play the bottom of the table team, show themselves, compose themselves, and they didn't. But at the end of the day, they came away with the three points."

DIALLO: WE NEED TO BE MORE HUNGRY
"We know we have quality players in this team. We need sometimes to be more hungry in the final third. Today we showed at the end that we were the best team on the pitch. I'm so happy.
"I'm ready to play every position! Right-wing back, No. 10, wherever the manager would like to put me! I'm ready to fight for this club.
"I'm so happy to play where the manager wanted me to play. I'm so happy to score a hat-trick. The most important thing is the win for the club."

DIALLO'S SPECIAL WEEK
It's been quite a few days for the Manchester United man, who has signed a new contract and now scored his first professional hat-trick. Speaking to TNT Sports, he says:
"Maybe one of the best weeks of my life. I'm very happy for this win. This team deserved to win this game."

SCHOLES: AS BAD AS YOU'LL SEE
Paul Scholes is part of the TNT Sports team tonight, and he says: "I think for 80 minutes, that's as bad a performance as you'll see.
"Especially against a team who are bottom of the league. I have to give Southampton credit as well. I thought they were so much better than Manchester United for 75 minutes."

WHAT IT MEANS
Manchester United have never lost four successive home games in the Premier League era. That record looked set to be broken for a long time, but they get a valuable win that moves them up to 12th.
As for Southampton, they can take plenty of heart from the performance, if not the result, but remain bottom with just six points from 21 games.
