JONES THE DIFFERENCE AS REDS GO TOP
Curtis Jones’ close-range finish proved decisive as Liverpool beat Chelsea 2-1 to return to the summit of the Premier League.
Jones was the star of the show at Anfield, and grabbed the goal his performance deserved in the 51st minute.
Liverpool’s winner came just after Nicolas Jackson had restored parity for Chelsea – who had fallen behind to Mohamed Salah’s penalty – with a goal that was initially disallowed for offside before the intervention of VAR.
The technology had come to Chelsea’s rescue in first-half stoppage time, with referee John Brooks changing his decision to award Liverpool a second penalty after Robert Sanchez had clattered into Jones, with the goalkeeper having just got a toe to the ball first.
Yet Chelsea could not forge a second comeback, as Liverpool went back above Manchester City, who had risen to the top following their last-gasp win at Wolves.

End of 2nd Half
FT
FULL-TIME: LIVERPOOL 2-1 CHELSEA
It's over - Liverpool have won and go back to the top of the table!
94'
ANOTHER ONE
A wicked delivery from the right causes Liverpool’s defence issues, and Nkunku is very nearly onto it at the back post, but he just can’t connect.
93'
BIG CHANCE
Palmer lifts in a brilliant free-kick from the right wing, which is met by Veiga. He got up and free of his marker, but could only send his header over.
That’s a big miss, and it might have been Chelsea’s final chance.
91'
SEVEN MINUTES
There’ll be seven minutes added on at Anfield. Will it be seven heaven for Chelsea, or can Liverpool continue to close them out?
89'
RUNNING IT DOWN
Liverpool are no strangers to the dark arts when required, and they are pulling out all the tricks in the book when it comes to ticking down the clock and keeping Chelsea at arms’ length.
87'
EXPERIENCE WINNING THE DAY?
Chelsea have a young team, and in truth, the experience and guile shown by Liverpool in the last 10 minutes or so seems to be getting the better of them at the moment.
Madueke and Palmer have been unable to get on the ball, while Nkunku and Neto are also being frustrated.

GOMEZ ON, TRENT OFF
A change at the back for Liverpool too. Alexander-Arnold has not been able to get forward as he usually does today, but he’s done a good job defensively. Gomez will play at right-back for the final stages.

STANDING OVATION
Rightly so, Jones takes the adulation from the Anfield faithful as he makes way for Mac Allister, after turning in a superb performance capped off with, as it stands, a goal that is set to be the winner.

SAVE
Sanchez has a good view of it as Diaz lines it up and arrows a strike towards the Spaniard’s near post.
Diaz has certainly livened things up for the Reds since his introduction, with his ability to carry the ball a real asset.
78'
NO QUESTION THERE
That’s a definite booking for Veiga, who cynically blocked Diaz as the Colombian looked to charge out of Liverpool’s defensive third.
Slot looks to be readying another change, too, with Mac Allister preparing to come on in an attempt to help Liverpool get over the line and return to the top of the standings.
Meanwhile, Nkunku has come on for the Blues.

NETO TRIES HIS LUCK
Szoboszlai’s sloppiness puts Liverpool on the back foot as Neto drives forward through the centre of the pitch. He picks his head up but with only Jackson in support, takes aim with a hopeful punt that doesn’t come close to testing Kelleher.
71'
POOR FROM PALMER
Neto dazzles four Liverpool defenders with a fantastic, charging run in from the left.
He nudges it through to Palmer, who takes a touch before trying to side-foot it towards goal, but it is blocked at source.
Palmer had Madueke in space to his right, though, and really should have used him.

NUNEZ GOES INTO THE BOOK
Just a minute after a previous flashpoint with Badiashile, Nunez picks up a yellow card for clattering into the Chelsea defender after the ball had been played.
There’s definitely some needle out there.

THE DIFFERENCE MAKER
It's Jones' close-range finish that separates the sides as it stands. Will it stay that way at Anfield?

DIAZ IS ON
Liverpool have two players on five Premier League goals. Salah is one of them, and Diaz is the other, and the latter is now on in place of Gakpo.

WALL DOES ITS JOB
Palmer can’t get his free-kick up and over the wall, though the deflection takes the ball out for a corner.
Madueke gets on the end of that set-piece in the area, but can’t take the ball under his spell, and eventually is pulled back for a foul on Nunez.
