Premier League: 10-man Manchester City held at Crystal Palace, Brentford beat Newcastle United in six-goal thriller
Manchester City failed to build on their midweek victory over Nottingham Forest, surrendering more ground in the Premier League title race with a 2-2 draw at Crystal Palace. Rico Lewis was sent off late on for the visitors. Elsewhere, Brentford won a typically frantic affair at home to Newcastle and Jhon Duran struck the only goal as Aston Villa edged past bottom-of-the-table Southampton.

Manchester City were held 2-2 at Crystal Palace, with Rico Lewis sent off after his stunning strike earned a point for the visitors.
Despite winning their first game in eight matches against Nottingham Forest in midweek, Pep Guardiola's side were forced to come from behind twice to rescue a draw at Selhurst Park.
Erling Haaland ended his mini-drought to cancel out Daniel Munoz's early opener, before Maxence Lacroix turned home Will Hughes' corner shortly after half-time.
Lewis struck the pick of the goals to achieve parity in the 68th minute, but earned himself two yellow cards as City ended the contest with 10 men.
Bryan Mbeumo and Yoanne Wissa were on target as Brentford claimed another goal-heavy win at home, beating Newcastle United 4-2.
And Jhon Duran's first-half effort was enough for Aston Villa to secure a 1-0 victory over bottom-of-the-table Southampton.
City slip again as Lewis sees red
Munoz enjoyed a fine goalscoring record for Genk and Colombia last season, but had not netted for his new club until his dramatic late equaliser against Newcastle last Saturday.
The full-back saw his second Palace goal arrive in quick time, rifling under Stefan Ortega from an incisive through ball from Hughes in the fourth minute as Palace took the lead against Man City.
Big chances went begging for Haaland, Ilkay Gundogan and Savinho before the Norwegian rose highest to loop his header over Dean Henderson and level the match on the half-hour mark.
City started the brighter after the interval, but a rare spell of pressure from Palace bore fruit, and Lacroix grabbed his first goal since signing from Wolfsburg in the summer.
Hughes was the source once again, and his corner was met by the leaping Frenchman, who got the better of marker Kyle Walker to head home.

City showed their quality to draw level once more, as Bernardo Silva's cute reverse ball was hammered into the top corner by Lewis.
The 20-year-old was cautioned for dissent in the 70th minute, and was given his marching orders a quarter of an hour later, when his lunge on Trevoh Chalobah was deemed worthy of a second booking.
City players were unhappy with the timing of the referee's final whistle, with the visitors on the attack, but their arguments fell on deaf ears.

Brentford edge thriller at Gtech
The Gtech Community Stadium has been the place to be to see goals this season – before kick-off on Saturday, 34 times had the net bulged there, five more than at any other ground.
And Brentford's clash with Newcastle did not disappoint despite the dire conditions, with Newcastle behind twice and level twice by the 32nd minute.
Mbeumo struck his ninth league goal of the season after twinkling his way into the box, before Alexander Isak’s glancing header responded almost immediately for the visitors.
Pouncing on a loose Harvey Barnes pass, Wissa nudged Thomas Frank’s team in front with a sumptuous effort, with the Congolese scoring in his seventh successive home league fixture.
But their lead did not last long once again, as Barnes made amends and found Mark Flekken’s bottom corner, handing Jacob Murphy a brace of assists.
Newcastle hit the post and had nine shots in a frantic first half, but it was Brentford who struck the woodwork at the start of the second, when Wissa's deflected shot was turned onto the upright by Nick Pope.
Nathan Collins steered home Flekken's free-kick 10 minutes after the break to put The Bees back ahead.
All three points were assured when youngster Kevin Schade neatly chipped Pope at the end of a breathless contest in west London.
Duran the difference from the start
Preferred to Ollie Watkins, who started on the bench against Southampton, Duran repaid his manager’s faith with a superb opener for Aston Villa at Villa Park.
The 20-year-old capitalised on confusion in Southampton's defence and advanced to lift the ball over the onrushing Joe Lumley midway through the first half.
Southampton, as has been the case in the majority of their matches this season, were enjoying more of the ball while struggling to create clear-cut chances.
The pressure built from the visitors' perspective, but Villa held on to triumph in their second match on the bounce after a run of eight straight winless games.
