Tottenham Hotspur last finished in the Premier League top four in the 2021/22 season, but manager Ange Postecoglou says he will never target fourth place. The Australian expects his side to be in the title race next season, while insisting he will not “let the club rest” on their current fifth-placed status. Spurs could go fourth with victory over West Ham on Tuesday evening, live on TNT Sports.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou says he expects his side to push for the Premier League title next season, as he looks to build on an impressive start in charge of the north London club.
Spurs sit fifth in the Premier League table and could move level on points with fourth-placed Aston Villa with victory at West Ham United on Tuesday evening, live on TNT Sports.
Even though a first top-four finish since the 2021/22 season might be viewed as progress, Postecoglou has his sights set higher.
Asked if he expects a title push next season, Postecoglou told Standard Sport: “I hope so, or why am I doing what I’m doing? That’s why I came to the club.
“As somebody said to me last week, ‘Just do your job, Ange’. And my job is to try to bring success, and if you don’t think you’re going to be in the title race in 12 months’ time, then I don’t know why I’m here.
"We want to keep building on the foundation of being a team that hopefully in 12 months' time people are talking about us differently."
After leading the table in the early stages of the Premier League campaign, Spurs' form tailed off slightly to see them sitting in fifth, eight points from third-placed Manchester City.
Postecoglou would not be drawn on stating targets for the remainder of the season, but insisted he will never make finishing in fourth place a target.
“There’s nine games to go, let’s see where that takes us,” he said. “I’d rather have that approach than having one specific target.

“It’d probably make my life easier if I said, ‘Let’s make the Champions League’, because everyone thinks I’ve done a great job. But I look at the teams who made the Champions League this year from last year and that wasn’t the catalyst for them kicking on. I’m not going to let this club rest on where we finish this year."
Spurs have nine matches left to play of the Premier League season, including a home clash with north London rivals Arsenal and an away trip to leaders Liverpool.
