West Ham earned a late 2-2 draw against Newcastle while Wolves held local rivals Aston Villa to a 1-1 draw at Molineux in Sunday's Premier League games.
Newcastle travelled to the London Stadium looking to build on the momentum earned by their sterling 4-1 win over Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League in midweek.
They looked set to claim victory when Alexander Isak scored two in the second half after David Moyes’ team took the lead after just eight minutes through Tomas Soucek.
However, with a minute remaining of normal time, summer signing Mohammed Kudus fired in a low shot to earn a share of the points for the home team.
West Ham stay seventh, with Newcastle just behind in eighth.
Elsewhere, Wolves and Aston Villa played out their own draw.
Matty Cash had his side’s best chance when he fired straight at Jose Sa from John McGinn’s cross, and Wolves took the lead on 53 minutes through South Korean international Hwang Hee-chan, turning in Pedro Neto’s cross at the near post.
Just two minutes later Unai Emery’s team were level, when Pau Torres scored for Villa in a game marked by its lack of real chances for either side.
Neto had a chance to win it but fired over from close range after Sasa Kalajdzic teed him up.
There was late drama when Mario Lemina pulled back Nicolo Zaniolo, earning a second yellow card four minutes into added time, but the home side saw out the remaining eight minutes with 10 men.
The draw takes Wolves to 14th and Villa stay fifth.
