HONOURS EVEN AFTER WARD-PROWSE CANCELS OUT SOLANKE OPENER
West Ham and Bournemouth shared the points in an edgy 1-1 encounter that saw Kalvin Phillips get his Hammers career off to the worst possible start.
Dealing with an underhit pass from Kurt Zouma on his first Premier League start since May 2023, that lack of gametime showed as Phillips attempted to play it back to his goalkeeper rather than hammering it clear, but the ball fell to Dominic Solanke who fired home after just three minutes.
It was contrasting starts for the England hopefuls with assistant manager Steve Holland in attendance, with Solanke up to 13 goals for the season behind just Erling Haaland and Mohammed Salah, and Bournemouth stayed on the front foot for much of the first half.
But after Antoine Semenyo missed a golden chance to double his side’s lead before half-time, David Moyes’ team-talk appeared to pay dividends with the Hammers’ second-half positivity rewarded just before the hour mark.
Freshly back from the Africa Cup of Nations, Mohammed Kudus was the hosts’ main attacking outlet all game and was brought down for a penalty by Lloyd Kelly, that James Ward-Prowse coolly sent down the middle to earn his side a point.

WARD-PROWSE: IT'S A GOOD SIGN
James Ward-Prowse get his side level from the spot, and spoke to TNT Sports after the game:
"Credit to Bournemouth, they're a good side and we didn’t give ourselves the best platform but it’s a good sign to not play out best and still get a point.
"We’re a confident team just trying to play and it’s a mistake but the important thing is our heads didn’t drop. Maybe a little bit of rustiness for sure but we won’t complain about the rest."

FULL-TIME: WEST HAM 1-1 BOURNEMOUTH
Boos ring out at the London Stadium as a game of few chances turned scrappy at the end, like the reverse fixture on the opening day of the season it ends 1-1 which is probably a fair result overall. And don't forget, there's still plenty of time left in Man United vs Wolves over on TNT Sports 1 and discovery+!

LAST CHANGE?
Kudus is off after winning that penalty to give his side the chance to take a late winner, but it's Bournemouth who look the more likely to as the clock ticks towards full-time.
However, they'll need to do better than Adam Smith's crosses, he fires it in with way too much zip to create a chance for his Cherries teammate.

FAIVRE ON
Is Iraola reading this blog? We can't rule out the possibility as Faivre trots on and immediately takes on Alvarez with the ball at his feet.

ALVAREZ CONCERN
Edson Alvarez recovered from a calf injury to feature tonight, but has been slow to get up from his last couple of challenges and is wincing once again. He's got eight more minutes of added time to see out...

END-TO-END
Bournemouth's set-piece deliveries have been really poor tonight and Cook continues the trend there, before his back four rush towards Neto's goal to shut down Kudus on the break. It's looking like the points will be shared tonight.

WHERE'S ROMAIN
Romain Faivre is on the Bournemouth bench for the first time after being recalled from his Lorient loan but hasn't featured so far as the clock ticks down. On the pitch, Bournemouth have won a corner...

ANOTHER YELLOW
That challenge falls firmly in the Ryan Christie category for this game.

SOLANKE SILENCED
As Solanke trucks forward again before Emerson steps in, the West Ham defence do deserve credit for mostly shutting down the Premier League's top English scorer since his goal.

The full-back is able to walk off, but he's still replaced my Milos Kerkez.

KELLY DOWN
The penalty notwithstanding, Kelly's had a good game marking one of the more dangerous widemen in the Premier League but he's down now.

DANGEROUS CHANCE
West Ham could well have taken the lead there! The ball broke for a West Ham counter and a testing cross was dealt with superbly by Adam Smith. He only got it as far as Tomas Soucek who lined up a shot but it deflects out to safety, despite shouts of Handball on Sensi - he's played well all game.

BOWEN BOOKED
Bowen can't believe it, he slid in for a 50-50 ball and made minimal contact but he'll be treading on eggshells for the rest of the game.

PHILLIPS OFF
He'll be feeling better after that equaliser, but it's still not the debut of dreams for Kalvin Phillips who was pretty anonymous after setting up the opener.

ANOTHER BOOKING
That was a bit more cynical though, Kudus was accelerating towards the Cherries' defence and had to be bundled over by Ryan Christie right after we hype him up.

YELLOW CARD
Now part of the coaching setup at West Ham, Kevin Nolan's not lost any of the fighting spirit that was such a trademark as a player and picked up a booking in that kerfuffle around the penalty.
