Fabio Capello exclusive: Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola 'always finds the solution'

In an exclusive interview with Eurosport Italy, former England manager Fabio Capello has said that he thinks this season will be more difficult for Treble winners Manchester City but backed boss Pep Guardiola to "always find the solution".

Last year was a historic one for City as they became just the second team to win the Premier League, Champions League and FA Cup in a single season.

However it was a summer of change as Ilkay Gundogan, Joao Cancelo, Aymeric Laporte, Riyad Mahrez and Cole Palmer all left the club on permanent or temporary deals.

To replace them City spent big, bringing in Josko Gvardiol, Matheus Nunes, Jeremy Doku and Mateo Kovacic.

Speaking before last weekend's games - where City won 5-1 against Fulham and Arsenal beat Manchester United 3-1 - Capello said that he thinks this season will be more difficult for Guardiola's side because of their rivals also strengthening.

“I think this year will be difficult for Manchester City to win the Champions League another time and also the Premier League, because a lot of the teams are really strong," Capello told Eurosport Italy.

“I think Arsenal, Manchester United and also Newcastle United will be difficult in every league game and in the Champions League.”

Capello also went on to point out that there appears to have been a change in style from Guardiola in terms of how he is approaching things, adding his belief that the Spaniard will have no issue finding solutions.

“I’ve seen that Pep Guardiola has changed a lot of players and changed the style. He has more strong players and fewer technical players but Pep Guardiola will always find the solution. Good luck to him!”

Capello also had a word for the three Englishmen playing in Serie A: Fikayo Tomori, Tammy Abraham and Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The Italian said that their experience abroad can only be a good thing.

“At the moment in Serie A we have three English players playing. I think these three players will find something different in Serie A, technically and also for the pressure from the Italian press. I am sure playing in Serie A will make them better.”
