Erling Haaland’s incredible first season in English football was marked by another milestone after he scored his 50th Manchester City goal on Sunday.
The Norwegian scored from the penalty spot as the ball nestled in the bottom right-hand corner, despite Fulham keeper Bernd Leno guessing the right way.
It was an easy decision for referee Simon Hooper, after Julian Alvarez was brought down in the box by Tim Ream.
The goal was also Haaland’s 34th in the Premier League, which is a record in a 38-game season and is what Andy Cole and Alan Shearer managed when the campaign was played over 42 games.
He has also further extended his record as being the Premier League player to have scored the most goals in one season, overtaking the total of 44 set by Ruud van Nistelrooy and Mohamed Salah in the 2002/03 and 2017/18 campaigns respectively.
Haaland has also broken City’s top goalscorer record for a single season set by Tommy Johnson, whose tally of 38 had set the standard since 1929.
The 22-year-old is also the only player so far to score in each of his first four Premier League away games, as well as the first to score hat-tricks in three consecutive matches.
At the time of writing, Haaland managed to reach the milestone in 44 games, scoring 34 in the Premier League, 12 in the Champions League, three in the FA Cup and one in the Carabao Cup.
Following Haaland’s penalty, Fulham equalised through Carlos Vinicius with a superb first-time volley past Ederson.
But City moved back in front thanks to Alvarez, who smashed home a sensational looping strike to put Pep Guardiola’s side back in front at half-time.
City went on to claim the win and moved to the top of the table and a point clear of Arsenal, with a game in hand over The Gunners.
