Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta has been discharged from hospital after suffering a concussion in the 1-0 defeat to Southampton on Saturday.
Azpilicueta, 33, was struck in the face by Saints’ Sekou Mara as he attempted an overhead kick. The Spaniard received treatment on the pitch before being taken off on a stretcher.
Chelsea have said that he is “recovering well” and has been watching a training session at Cobham on Tuesday.
“Following a concussion injury sustained during Saturday’s game against Southampton, Cesar Azpilicueta has been discharged from hospital and is recovering well at Cobham,” read the club statement.
“The club’s medical team are closely monitoring Cesar’s condition, adhering to the important concussion protocols in place to ensure his safety.
“Cesar observed training today, before he starts working towards returning to the pitch.”
Azpilicueta has started 11 of Chelsea’s 23 Premier League games this season. The club are 10th in the table, 11 points behind fourth-placed Tottenham.

Azpilicueta tweeted on Sunday: "My family and I would like to thank everyone who has been looking after me since yesterday's incident.
"From the Chelsea FC medical team, to team-mates and opponents, to St Mary's and Cleveland Hospital and all staff members and doctors: a massive thank you from the bottom of my heart. Now, time to recover and I will see you soon on the pitch!"
Chelsea travel to Tottenham in the Premier League on Sunday.
While pressure appears to be mounting on Chelsea manager Graham Potter, he said he doesn’t believe he is the problem.
“After a 1-0 defeat at home, any criticism you get is understandable,” said Potter after the loss to Southampton.
“We’ve had a tough period, we’ve had lots of challenges, integrating young players into the Premier League. Whilst results don’t go your way, it can be tough.
“I’m sure there will be people out there who will think I’m the problem. I don’t think they’re right. I’m not arrogant enough to say their opinion isn’t worth articulating.
“My job is to help the team keep working through a tough period.”
