Pogba to force United exit

Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba is determined to force his way out of Old Trafford, according to a story in The Daily Telegraph. Pogba told the United hierarchy weeks ago that he wants out of the club, and that was before he was stripped of the vice captaincy at the club in the last week. Pogba wants to join Barcelona and had an argument with Mourinho on the training ground yesterday.
Paper Round’s view: Pogba’s public criticism of Mourinho after the draw against Wolves - when he was the player at fault for Wolves’ equaliser - means that Pogba should never play for the club again. If he does feature, or force Mourinho out, then it will only serve to encourage other players in future to act out and disrupt the team when they feel like it. Mourinho might have come to the end of his time at the club too, but he can't be made to leave first.

Pogba and Mourinho’s row explained

The reason for the row between Mourinho and Pogba has been revealed in The Sun. The paper claims that there was confusion over Pogba posting to Instagram, showing a video of the player and Andreas Pereira laughing at Luke Shaw. Mourinho believed the video was posted after the defeat to Derby County, but it is reported it was posted at half time, and only went through much later because of the poor WiFi signal at the ground.

Paper Round’s view: Regardless of the row and whether Pogba is to blame or not - and he is innocent if the story is as The Sun claims - the end of the line was reached a long time ago. This is a minor transgression compared to previous complaints and petulant strops, and it is hard to claim that United are a better side with him in the team, given his dreadful form. Scott McTominay is now a more reliable option.

Ramsey to leave Arsenal

Aaron Ramsey’s contract talks with Arsenal have now completely broken down, and he is expected to leave the club on a free transfer as a result. Talks in the last few weeks have taken such an extreme turn that there is no longer any agreement for him to sign, even if he would want to negotiate further. Manchester United, Chelsea, Lazio and Juventus are all interested in taking the player for nothing, with the 27-year-old free to negotiate with foreign clubs in January.

Paper Round’s view: Ramsey is one of Arsenal’s best players, but that means a lot less than it has done in seasons gone by. To take Ramsey without paying a transfer fee makes his availability much more interesting, but there is no indication he is ready to improve his form as previous leavers, like Cesc Fabregas and Robin van Persie, have done.

Foden set for new City deal

Manchester City teenager Ben Foden is set to be offered a new, long-term deal to stay at the Etihad. Pep Guardiola was impressed by Foden’s Carabao Cup performance against Oxford United, where he scored his first goal for the club, and Guardiola said he will give him plenty more minutes on the pitch this season. Foden’s deal is set to run out in 2020 but both sides expect a quick resolution to fresh talks.

Paper Round’s view: Foden seems like an exceptional talent, and he is one of the few English teenagers who has not yet been tempted into a move to Germany. City have few links with Manchester after years of spending millions on foreign talent. While there is nothing inherently wrong with that, they might be able to start filling out their ground if they have players who have some kind of link to the fans.
