Hazard may never join Real Madrid
With the end of the Spanish transfer window fast approaching, it appears that Eden Hazard will not get his desired move to Real Madrid in the next few days. His father, Thierry, thinks that a move may now never happen. After Zinedine Zidane left, a big fan of Hazard, a key factor in a possible transfer was removed. Chelsea have received a boost that he might now sign a new contract with Thierry saying: “Next year, Eden will have one year left on his contract but perhaps he never ends up in Madrid."

Paper Round’s view: If Real Madrid want Hazard, they will be able to do so at a reduced price in the summer, which could make a transfer more likely, not less. But after recent rumours of Zidane wanting to take over at Manchester United, what are the chances of Ed Woodward seeing the chance to add another superstar to his squad and keep his potential new manager happy?
Guardiola wants rules changed for injuries
Following the injury to Claudio Bravo, Pep Guardiola has suggested that the transfer rules are changed. City were able to get clearance to recall teenage Aro Muric from NEC Breda to provide cover for the rest of the season. Guardiola was asked if it should be made easier for clubs to act in similar situations, and he said, "Maybe the federation can think about that when there are long injuries and it is still the period where the European window is open."

Paper Round’s view: Manchester City had months and months to make sure that they were happy with their squad. They also have, essentially, unlimited funds, because their owners are trying to impress the world with their reputation rather than trying to just turn a profit. Nobody forced City to sell Joe Hart, and they could have signed a free transfer ‘keeper instead of recalling someone. The rules do not need changing, especially for clubs as rich as City.
Lookman close to Everton exit
Ademola Lookman appears to be on the verge of a permanent transfer away from Everton. The 20-year-old has been subject of a few bids from RB Leipzig and Everton are considering an offer of £25m having asked the German side for £28m plus add-ons. Everton have now left Lookman out of their matchday squad for Bournemouth, suggesting that he could be close to a move.

Paper Round’s view: Lookman should be applauded for getting a move, if it does go through. Under Sam Allardyce he fought for an exit, even on a temporary basis, and was happy to move abroad to get it. He impressed in a different league and culture, and could be on the cusp of doing so again. It appears first-team action will help both his personal ambitions and those of the England national squad.
Cahill could join Galatasaray
Gary Cahill could be in line for a surprise move away from Chelsea in the last few days of the transfer window. The 32-year-old England international has fallen down the pecking order under Maurizio Sarri. Turkish club Galatasaray are interested in taking the player to Turkey after Antonio Rudiger and David Luiz have emerged as Chelsea’s first-choice pairing so far this season.

Paper Round’s view: Given the political upheaval in Turkey over the last few years, and with an economic crisis looming, Cahill could be forgiven for scepticism over a move. However, if he is able to secure his economic future, he would be one of the best performers in a league with some quality, and with the chance of regular Champions League football, which might prolong his international career.
