Rashford to sign new United deal

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford is ready to sign a new deal to keep him at Old Trafford. The 21-year-old England international has flourished under new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and enjoys working with him. Reports suggest his new deal could earn him ÂŁ150,000 a week. Talks with Ander Herrera, Juan Mata and David de Gea continue to stall over the wages on offer, say the Mail.
Paper Round’s view: Mata’s talents have never been used to their full with United but as playmaker back-up to Paul Pogba he is definitely worth keeping. Ander Herrera has a role in midfield, too, and obviously David de Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world. Losing them is a false economy, given the cost to replace them, so they may soon follow Rashford in signing new deals.

Chelsea on alert for Coutinho

Barcelona midfielder Philippe Coutinho could soon be on his way back to the Premier League, says the Express. The paper believes that Coutinho is prepared to end his time at Barcelona to rediscover his old Liverpool form, and Manchester United have made contact over a possible transfer for the 26-year-old Brazil international. Chelsea, too, are monitoring the situation ahead of the summer.

Paper Round’s view: Manchester United would benefit from having him in their squad, as would almost any club in the world, but a move to Chelsea seems the most logical, assuming they can put off their transfer ban until after the summer. If they sell Eden Hazard to Real Madrid, then a cheaper and younger replacement could be Coutinho, though he might prefer to play a bit deeper on the pitch.

Mourinho ready for Bayern

The Mirror carries a story that claims Jose Mourinho is under consideration for the Bayern Munich job. Niko Kovac is currently in place but he has struggled to impress despite currently being top of the Bundesliga, and could be turfed out at the end of the season. The former Manchester United manager Mourinho is a target for Bayern after he was considered for the job previously.

Paper Round’s view: Mourinho says he is ready to return to management, but there are some questions and problems that need to be resolved. Bayern is a club of big egos, and when that is going well then they will probably welcome and celebrate Mourinho, but he appears to struggle with younger players - which might be a problem for a squad that needs rebuilding.

Solskjaer: Don’t sell Pogba

Manchester United boss Solskjaer has told the club not to sell Pogba to Real Madrid, and wants to keep Rashford too. The pair have been linked with moves to Spain with Pogba in particular previously reported to be keen on a move away from Manchester. Given the upturn in United’s fortunes it appears he is less desperate to leave and the Norwegian manager told the press: “They are vital for our future.”

Paper Round’s view: If Real Madrid do not get hold of Hazard in the summer - which might be a problem with Chelsea’s transfer punishment - then it would make sense that they turn their attention to Pogba, given his success with the French national side. However, Solskjaer’s presence at United could convince him to give his current club one last chance.
