The Liverpool defender recently claimed that he is one of the best defenders in world football, after helping Liverpool and Croatia reach the Champions League final and World Cup final respectively.
Often derided by opposition fans (as well as his own on occasions), Lovren stands by his comments.
“I said ‘one of the best defenders in the world and I think I didn’t say anything wrong,” he said during an interview with Copa90.
He then proceeded to name the other defenders whom he thinks are on a level playing field with himself.
“Virgial (van Dijk). We had a great season, last season, me and him. We reached the final of the Champions League.
“I would say (Raphael) Varane. I like Varane, he deserves a lot of credit but I think he dosen’t get it as much as (Sergio Ramos) gets it and I don’t agree with that,” he added.

The Croat had absolutely no doubt who was the better player of the Real Madrid duo.
“Is Varane better than Ramos? Definitely. He won the Champions League, he won the World Cup, so he should be voted the best defender in the world.
“Then I would always consider Thiago Silva. He’s really good, experienced, he’s not so tall but jumps quite high.”
It must be awkward for Lovren, who describes himself as one of the world’s best, but then loses his place in the Liverpool starting line-up to Joe Gomez.
Jurgen Klopp must be mad!
