Manchester City want Jorginho, but face competition from United, who are following Ryan Sessegnon. Gareth Bale considers Bayern Munich and Liverpool protect Mo Salah from Real Madrid. It's Thursday's Paper Round...

City, United and Liverpool face off for Jorginho

Manchester United and Manchester City are going to battle it out for Napoli midfielder Jorginho. However, they aren't the only two clubs who want the 26-year-old Italian international, as Liverpool are also interested in restocking their side in the summer. City want someone to replace Yaya Toure, who is set to leave, and provide competition for Fernandinho. Jose Mourinho is not looking to spend big this summer, but Ed Woodward has promised him cash to compete, including for the £50-rated Jorginho.
Paper Round's view: Manchester United and City both need new midfielders. As discussed above, Toure will leave and Fernandinho needs support and competition as he is in his thirties. Mourinho has claimed that he doesn't want to spend big, but that can be taken with a pinch of salt. Knowing that the two Manchester clubs share targets, saying he is not interested in spending huge sums protects him if Pep Guardiola beats him to a few players over the course of the summer.

Bale refuses to rule out summer move to Bayern

Real Madrid forward has refused to rule out a move to Bayern Munich in the summer. In Germany for Real's Champions League semi-final against Bayern, he said that he was flattered by the interest, and that, 'you can never rule out anything in football.' Bayern will face competition from the Premier League, as both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United are also monitoring the availability of the 28-year-old Welsh international.

Paper Round's view: Bayern Munich do need some new blood on the wings. Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben still impress, but they are well into their thirties now and replacing them needs to be considered. Douglas Costa is expected to join Juventus on a permanent deal, too. As someone who readily left Britain, Bale may enjoy life in another European city rather than returning to England, and Bayern are one of the few sides in the world who could afford him.

Liverpool strong in face of interest in Salah

Liverpool are not taking Real Madrid's interest in forward Mo Salah lightly. A theoretical valuation on the player has been raised from around £100m to double that figure, as he continues his impressive scoring form into the Champions League semi-finals. Real also have other options, with one being considered Neymar Jr at PSG, recovering from a broken foot. Liverpool are also open to negotiating a new contract for the 25-year-old Egyptian international.

Paper Round's view: Liverpool have no reason to sell, just as they had no reason to sell Philippe Coutinho. They don't need the money, given Premier League broadcast, ticketing and European revenue, and are now the third best side in England, with hopes of competing for the title next season. As a result, the only reason they might sell would be for a huge sum - the £200m mentioned - or because Salah decides he wants to move elsewhere, which seems unlikely for at least one more season.

United want to convince Sessegnon to leave London

Manchester United have been following Fulham's 17-year-old left back Ryan Sessegnon all season, but they will have to convince him to leave London. The player is unsure about that, and could join Spurs instead. That would make Danny Rose available, another left-back that United have been considering. There is also interest in Juventus defender Alex Sandro and Celtic's Kieren Tierney.

Paper Round's view: Sessegnon is really a left winger, so any interest in the player from United won't necessarily see an end to the interest in any more traditional defenders. Alex Sandro and Danny Rose both have years of experience in their domestic top flight at a high level, and would be the safety-first options. The alternative is Tierney, who has done well in the occasional Champions League match, but seems much more of a risk if Ashley Young is the back-up for next season.
