Arsenal target Low

Arsenal's hierarchy and playing staff have become so disillusioned with Arsene Wenger that he will be replaced in the summer. Wenger has a year to run on his contract at the end of the season, but the club are looking into who can take over already. The favourite is Germany's international team manager Joachim Low, and the club are also monitoring Brendan Rodgers at Celtic and Monaco's Leonardo Jardim.
Paper Round's view: Wenger needed to be removed around five years ago, but at least Arsenal aren't going to let him see out his contract with the club in the middle of an alarming decline. While Brendan Rodgers is perhaps the most progressive thinker in all of footballl these days, Low does have more experience at the top, and is used to the stability that Arsenal would probably like to give him. Jardim has impressed at Monaco, but has much less experience.

Sessegnon favours Spurs move

Fulham's 17-year-old full-back Ryan Sessegnon favours a move to Tottenham, because he wants the chance to work with Mauricio Pochettino, and stay in London. Spurs want to pay around ÂŁ35m for the ÂŁ50m-rated defender. There is also interest from Manchester United, Manchester City and Liverpool. Sessegnon has a contract that runs until 2020 at Craven Cottage.
Paper Round's view: A move to Spurs would obviously appeal. Sessegnon is just a teenager, and staying in London would allow him to stay in touch with his family more easily than if he was to move to the North of England. Pochettino also has a reputation for developing youngsters, and as Danny Rose is expected to move on in the summer, he knows that there will be plenty of opportunities for first-team action at the new Spurs stadium.

Emre Can to run down contract

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can has said that his agent has, "blocked all negotations," over his contract as he wants to remain focused on football for the rest of the season. That means that Can will be able to negotiate a new contract at the end of the season, with Liverpool in competition with Juventus, amongst other clubs, to keep hold of the 24-year-old German international.
Paper Round's view: Can may well be telling the truth, that he wants to simply think about Liverpool's season now, especially as he is preparing for the 2018 World Cup in Russia. However, if he is intending on joining another club, especially one which is also in the Premier League, then this is a good way to deflect more speculation until he is free to sign a contract with another club.

De Gea frustrated over new contract

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is growing frustrated with the club dragging their heels over a new contract. There is an acceptance that De Gea deserves a new deal after some exceptional performances since he joined the club, but United are in no hurry as his contract has an option that can extend it until 2020. However, De Gea is unhappy at having to wait much longer.
Paper Round's view: United should not dawdle over getting De Gea to sign a new contract. Signing one would ward off any interest from Real Madrid for at least another season, especially as they will likely be focusing on overhauling their attack and trying to sign Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain. Having said that, this story is probably either Jose Mourinho or De Gea – who share the same agent – trying to put pressure on Ed Woodward as part of the opening rounds of negotiations.
