‘Just a bit of banter’ – Romelu Lukaku plays down celebrations after Everton goal
Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has played down his celebrations against former club Everton as he scored the third during his team’s 4-0 victory on Sunday.
Lukaku cupped his ears to the Everton fans and showed no signs of there being muted celebrations as he slotted home to put the result beyond doubt.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game Lukaku played it down saying "I mean, it's another goal and I'm happy with the win. It's just a bit of banter, after the free-kick I missed.”
When asked about the game overall Lukaku said he felt United could have scored more early on and how Jose Mourinho felt Everton were vulnerable in midfield.
"We could have scored more in first half. We weren't clinical enough. Everton created problems in midfield and the manager gave us tips at half-time of how to sort it.
"In second half, Everton had a lot of control but quality was the difference in the end."
He also said the team didn’t pay attention to Manchester City’s crushing 6-0 win over Watford, saying that he thinks United can play better.
"We don't look at our opponents, we stay focused on us. We know we can play better than we did today.”
