Granit Xhaka signs new long-term contract with Arsenal
Arsenal confirmed on Friday that midfielder Granit Xhaka has signed a new, long-term contract with the club.
Xhaka, 25, joined the Gunners from Borussia Monchengladbach in May 2016 and has become a regular fixture in Arsenal's midfield.
Last season he was an ever-present in the Premier League, scoring one goal.
New head coach Unai Emery said: “I’m delighted that Granit has extended his contract with us.
"He’s an important member of the squad and is still young so will be able to develop even more. I hope he has a successful World Cup with Switzerland and comes back fit and ready for the new season.”
Xhaka's new contract comes after youngster Ainsley Maitland-Niles also committed his future to the club.
Emery has already made his first signing as Arsenal boss in the shape of Xhaka's compatriot Stephan Lichtsteiner.
