Brighton earn vital point in dour draw with Tottenham

A Pascal Groß penalty was enough to secure Brighton and Hove Albion a precious point in their quest for Premier League survival as they held Tottenham Hotspur 1-1 at the Amex Stadium.
Harry Kane opened the scoring with 48 minutes on the clock after fine play by Heung-Min Son but the hosts were level moments later after José Izquierdo was felled by Serge Aurier inside the box.
It was Kane's 26th league goal of the season.
Groß stepped up and made no mistake from the spot to earn Chris Hughton’s men a vital point in their battle against the drop.
The draw left fourth-placed Tottenham eight points clear of Chelsea in fifth, but last season's champions have a game in hand in the battle to secure Champions League qualification.
The point sees Brighton move onto 36 points, eight points clear of Southampton in 18th.

TALKING POINT
The final seconds. Could Brighton have snatched a winner had they been permitted to counter-attack rather than the play being stopped? Referee Kevin Friend had little real choice, seeing as Anthony Knockaert was clutching his face, and had incurred a similar blow earlier...but the fans were not happy, and nor were the players.

Mat Ryan (Brighton). Always solid, in the air and shot-stopping, in contrast to his more wobbly opposite number Hugo Lloris, who may still have been feeling the effects of his poor weekend.

KEY MOMENTS
18' CLOSE! Ooh. A proper chance, and it's for Brighton. Groß takes a corner, Dunk gets on the end of it and Lloris is not exactly confident as he gathers, grabbing it properly at the second effort.
48' GOAL! Really poor defending from Brighton. Son rolls the ball down the touchline, and Kane pokes the shot into the net. Ironically, he may not have got the final touch, but he's celebrating.
49' PENALTY TO BRIGHTON! Izquiero is brought down by Aurier.
50' GOAL! And an almost immediate equaliser! Groß takes it, and Lloris gets his hands to it but can't prevent its path into the back of the net.
73' CLOSE! Dunk is SO close to scoring an own goal there. He throws out a leg to divert Eriksen's shot and it veers round the post.
