Manchester United target £80m duo

Jose Mourinho has lost patience with Marouane Fellaini after he was sent off towards the end of the Manchester derby, and has targeted two new midfielders. Mourinho wants to replace Fellaini with Blaise Matuidi, the PSG midfielder, and also bring in Monaco's promising Bernardo Silva, who has impressed in their Champions League campaign this season.
Paper Round's view: Manchester United need an attacking midfielder who is an upgrade on Juan Mata, Jesse Lingard and Wayne Rooney, so if Silva is available it would make sense to snap him up and add some youthful energy to the attack. Matuidi is much older, but is an established box-to-box midfielder who offers the steel of Fellaini, but is a far more technically adept and reliable defensive presence.

Van Dijk a wanted man

Despite suffering a serious injury, Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk is a target for both Manchester City and Arsenal, who are favourites to sign the £50m-rated central defender. But the competition doesn't stop there, as Everton, Liverpool and even Chelsea are considering a move to strengthen their backline in the summer. Van Dijk is expected to be fit again in August.
Paper Round's view: Van Dijk has plenty of compelling positives. He is strong, and he has been able to play under the intelligent and demanding Claude Puel, while improving throughout the season. He is young for a centre-back at 25, so despite a £50m price tag, if he settles in at a big club he would represent value for money over the course of his career. Able to play in a back three and four, he offers tactical versatility to some of the best managers in the league.

Wenger: Spurs could lose their stars

Arsene Wenger has warned Spurs that they might lose their best players following their move to Wembley next season. A move might reduce their income, and their already strict wage ceiling might prevent them from keeping hold of their best players, Wenger said. "When you get to a level, at some stage the best players want to be paid like the other players at that level. If the differential is too big, you’re never able to keep your best players,” Wenger said before the North London derby.
Paper Round's view: It might be read as mind games from Wenger before the big match, but Wenger isn't the type of manager to unsettle his opponent like that. More reasonably, Wenger has been through this situation, with Champions League games at Wembley, a move to a new stadium, and the financial implications that come with it. Mauricio Pochettino can only hope he will deal with the problems better than Wenger - they might ultimately have doomed Wenger's hopes of another title.
