Paper Round: Antonio Conte a 'disaster' at getting players in, Rafa Benitez wanted Joe Hart

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has called himself a 'disaster' when it comes to persuading his board to sign players. Conte argued whilst speaking to the press that he remains one of the best at getting the most out of his players but admitted he needs to work on his approach in the transfer market.

Paper Round's view: Given that Chelsea have let Nathan Ake, Nathaniel Chalobah, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tammy Abraham leave the club either permanently or on loan and replaced them with Antonio Rudiger, Danny Drinkwater, Ross Barkley and Olivier Giroud for nearly £100 million it's fair for the fans to expect more in the transfer market. Would those players have changed Chelsea's season? No, probably not. However it would at least show the fans that there is a clear plan when it comes to signings and the academy. Rather than just throwing money at random solutions to problems that should never have existed.

We move to Manchester now and Pep Guardiola has said that he believes that Kevin De Bruyne could win the 2018 Ballon d'Or if Manchester City win the Champions League.

Paper Round's view: Such has been the dominance of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo it's tough to picture anyone else winning the award. It could come to De Bruyne or Neymar if one of them can lead their side to Champions League success. And of course then there's the World Cup...

In The Mirror it is reported that Rafa Benitez wanted to bring Joe Hart to Newcastle United during the January transfer window but West Ham blocked the deal. Instead the Magpies turned to Martin Dubravka on loan from Sparta Prague.

Paper Round's view: Times are tough for Hart at the moment and getting some regular football could have been just what he needed. With Adrian keeping a clean sheet against Watford on Saturday it's hard to see the England man getting back in to the team any time soon.

David Moyes has told reporters that he is feeling confident of having more of a say in transfers and reducing the influence of West Ham co-owner David Sullivan. Moyes' deal is due to expire at the end of the season but if he can keep West Ham up then that could be extended.

Paper Round's view: West Ham have signed some good players over the last few seasons but they've also made some costly mistakes and it has been hard to know who was calling the shots. If Moyes can bring some structure that would be a much-needed step to some stability at the club.
