The playmaker moved in a ÂŁ42.5million deal but had to personally intervene after removing his father, Mustafa, as his agent when their relationship deteriorated.
Talks with Real president Florentino Perez had also stalled and Ozil, who had won the Liga and Copa del Rey at the club, was concerned he might be frozen out of the team.
"My father didn't know that negotiation pressure," Ozil writes in his new book 'Die Magie des Spiels' (The Magic of the Game) which is being serialised in Bild. "But it's just normal to have different points of view at the beginning of negotiations.
"He hadn't negotiated a lot with the biggest club bosses and so he lacked serenity to deal with that provoking offer from Real Madrid in an appropriate way.
"My father slammed the door of Perez's business room and I risked to sit in the stands. Suddenly I had to act. For my career. It was not at all possible to stay anymore - especially if this decision was not based on performance criteria.
He said though at the time he didn't feel his journey with Real Madrid was over yet, he changed his mind after speaking to Wenger.
In the excerpt, he writes: “There was also this man with the quiet voice, the possessive approach and the wise words that showed me that he really wanted me. Wenger gave me a much better feeling than Carlo Ancelotti did at Real.”
Ozil describes how the relationship with his father turned sour, but adds that he was responsible for much of his career so far.
"I parted ways with my father in October 2013," he adds. "He was angry and felt aggrieved. He even deleted my Twitter account as an administrator and I lost millions of followers.
"It is a sad chapter in a very long and respectful father-son relationship, which is the basis for what I achieved as a football player."
