Did Pogba save Jose's job?

We start with the back page of The Sun which has an exclusive that Paul Pogba could be responsible for Jose Mourinho keeping his job. According to the report Pogba was one of the players Mourinho consulted at half-time of their dramatic 3-2 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday. Pogba pushed to play slightly deeper so that Marouane Fellaini could come on and it proved to be a brilliant decision as the Frenchman dictated the game in the second half.
Paper Round's view: If this is true, it could be a positive sign that Mourinho has finally decided to listen to his players and show some flexibility. Will it fix all the issues at the club? No of course not. But it could well be the starting point for things starting to change at Old Trafford... Or we could be sat here in a month and Mourinho is gone, who knows with Jose!

Mou wants public backing

We move to The Telegraph which has a report that while Manchester United's senior figures are still privately backing their manager Mourinho wants a public statement of support. However this is unlikely to be forthcoming as it is not United's policy to comment on club matters in such a fashion.
Paper Round's view: This makes sense, it's very unusual for big clubs to actually do this. Don't forget that it was around this time three years ago that Chelsea released a statement of support for Mourinho. Two months later he was gone as the club teetered near the relegation zone. Sometimes it's best not to have that sort of backing.

Arsenal to land Almiron in January

In The Mirror it is reported that Arsenal will sign Atlanta United's Miguel Almiron in January for a fee of around £15 million. Almiron, 24, has always been expected to leave the club at the end of this MLS season following his excellent performances.
Paper Round's view: There are a few issues here. Namely that this story has been doing the rounds for a few days and it all appears to be based on quotes from Atlanta president Darren Eales, which were reportedly claimed to be false. So this would appear to very much be a wait and see situation.

Martino ready to move on

Speaking of Atlanta United we end with quotes from their manager, Tata Martino, who has hinted that he will be prepared to move on when his contract expires at the end of the MLS season. Martino is currently leading Atlanta to one of the best seasons in MLS history but has said that he doesn't want things to become stale at the club. He has been linked with the US men's national team job as well as Mexico and Argentina.
Paper Round's view: The job Martino has done with Atlanta has been hugely impressive and his role in bringing so much young South American talent to the club must not be understated. Replacing him will be tough but he it might be time for a new direction in Atlanta.
