Watford break transfer record to sign Spurs midfielder Etienne Capoue
Watford have broken their transfer record to sign Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Etienne Capoue.
The 26-year-old has signed a four-year contract with the promoted club after failing to earn a regular starting role with Spurs.
Capoue, who has seven caps for France, joined Tottenham for £9 million from Toulouse in August 2013. Watford are reported have paid £7 million, but while they announced they'd broken their club transfer record they did not name an exact figure..
He made 19 league starts for the club, scoring just once.
Watford’s previous record transfer fee was the £3.25 million paid for West Brom striker Nathan Ellington in 2007.
Watford have also been linked with a £7 million move for Genoa winger Diego Perotti, another transfer fee which would eclipse the Ellington deal, although the club have not released concrete details as to the fee paid for Capoue.
