Antonio Conte is determined to boost Chelsea's confidence as they look to improve on last season's miserable Premier League campaign.
Chelsea offered a disappointing defence of their 2015 title, sacking Jose Mourinho last December with the team languishing in 16th place.

Conte: I'm not feeling relaxed!

While Guus Hiddink steadied the ship, taking Chelsea to tenth, Conte knows he has to improve his players' self-belief ahead of the new season, which he anticipates will be a "great battle".
"We are working on a new idea of football," the former Italy coach said on Friday. "The team lost their confidence a bit in the last season. We are working on this.

Chelsea sign £32 N'Golo Kante from Leicester

"I had these situations and so you know the right time to go strong or soft or in a good way," he added. "It's important not to forget last season, but it's also important to think to the present and to build a good future."

WHY SHOULD I CARE?

A London derby to start the season is always something special, but it will be fascinating to witness what effect Conte has had on Chelsea after last season's wretched and fairly forgettable campaign that began with Jose Mourinho running the place and ended with Guus Hiddink attempting to clear up the Manchester United manager's mess.

After binging on Serie A titles as Juventus coach, Conte did a commendable job with the Italian national side, and will be expected to create a feeling of harmony around Stamford Bridge from early on in the campaign. It is a chemistry that went missing rapidly a year ago under the Special One.

CAN I WATCH IT ON TV?

Yes - the match will be televised on Sky Sports in the UK. Here's the schedule.

CAN I STILL GET TICKETS?

West Ham boss Slaven Bilic has a number of decisions to make in regards to his team for Monday night's Premier League opener at Chelsea.
He has already confirmed Dimitri Payet will not be fit to play the whole game after returning back to pre-season following his Euro 2016 exploits with France, while new signings Andre Ayew and Arthur Masuaku also need to prove their fitness if they are to make their debuts.
Aaron Cresswell and Manuel Lanzini (both knee) are definitely out but former Chelsea youngster Gokhan Tore (knee) is back in training.

MANAGER QUOTES

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte: "I bring my experience as a former player and I think that’s important because every single manager must try to improve their players in different aspects, not just technical or tactical but everything from improving performance to aiding recovery after games and avoiding injuries.
"My experience as a former player is important and I try to transfer that to my players and then they understand if it’s good or not good for them. It’s important to understand the right way to approach a situation. When you’ve been there yourself you know the right time to be soft or strong."
West Ham manager Slaven Bilic: "Of course Chelsea are favourites and they are playing at home but he is new and we are going to see how it works. He will not know how it will work in the first game. In fact, do any of us know how their teams will play in the first game? No. It is a big blow for us that Manuel Lanzini and Aaron Cresswell are out and that Dimitri Payet is not yet fully fit. We will see how he does over the next couple of days before we make a decision."
