"He has signed a six-month contract," Marseille said on their website.
"We have the opportunity to have him for six months. We need an experienced player, who will bring something to the dressing room and who has an exemplary mentality," Marseille coach Eric Gerets said.
The former Arsenal and Lyon player was in Marseille for a medical.
Wiltord, 34, scored 26 goals in 92 appearances for France between 1999 and 2006.
He was a member of the Euro 2000-winning team, scoring the equaliser in the final against Italy, and also came on as a substitute in the 2006 World Cup final which they lost to Italy.
He has featured in only six Ligue 1 matches this season despite having an important role in his debut campaign at the club.
