Arsenal v Crystal Palace – League Cup latest as Gabriel Jesus scores hat-trick in response to Jean-Philippe Mateta's early opener

A second half hat-trick for Gabriel Jesus saw Arsenal battle back from a goal behind to beat London rivals Crystal Palace 3-2.

After making eight changes Mikel Arteta was under pressure after Jean-Philippe Mateta muscled his way through the hesitant defence to put Palace ahead with less than four minutes later.

Mikel Arteta became increasingly frustrated with his side during the first half and introduced Martin Odegaard at the break.

The Norwegian midfielder helped to turn the game feeding the ball through for Jesus to pull his side level.

Fellow substitute Bukayo Saka was next to assist striker Jesus who beat goalkeeper Dean Henderson again to give his side a 73rd minute lead.

With Palace pushing forward Odegaard was able to release Jesus in on goal for his hat-trick.

The Arsenal striker came into the game having not scored at the Emirates in 367 days but showed no hesitation in sealing the win.

Former Gunners player Eddie Nketiah gave his side a late scare by heading a goal back.

However, Arsenal showed the composure to see off the match and book their semi-final spot.

Arsenal hang on in the closing stages but are into the semi-final.

A moment when tempers bubbled over and Lewis-Skelly is booked for his part.

Nketiah was causing more problems for his former side and sent an inviting ball into the box which Gabriel had to scrap clear.

 Kiwior is replaced by Gabriel for Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Schlupp has come on for Mitchell for Palace

The former Arsenal man heads his side back into the match with a fine effort which flies into the net, from Clyne’s cross.

Odegaard releases Jesus with a nice through ball which leaves the striker clear on goal. Again the marksman fires across Henderson and into the net.

Huges is taken off for Devenny

The Palace goalkeeper comes out to claim a through ball. Despite his feet going outside the box the shot-stopper kept the ball inside the box in his hands.

Saka looked in an off-side position when he slipped the ball through to Jesus. However, there is no VAR tonight and the linesman’s flag stayed down.

Saka turns with one touch and then slides the ball into the path of Jesus. The striker looks up and rifles his effort into the bottom corner.

Henderson has been kept busy in this second half as Arsenal search for a winner. Odegaard has made a huge difference and he slips the ball wide to Merino whose low effort is saved.

Saka comes on for Sterling.

Tierney has picked up a knock and is off for Lewis-Skelly.

This game is starting to get frantic with both sides rushing forwards in numbers.

Your money would be on Arsenal, but equally Palace are capable of stunning their hosts.

A lovely ball by Trossard finds Jesus who spins away from his marker and through on goal. However, Henderson is out quickly to make a smart stop.

Arsenal goalkeeper Raya almost gets caught off his line. Instead of shooting straight away Palace work the ball and Lerma sees his low effort saved.

Mateta is replaced by Nketiah who comes on against his former side. Meanwhile, Eze comes off for Kamada

The atmosphere at the Emirates has completely changed as free-flowing passing is now finding gaps in the Palace defence.

However, the visitors still have an element of danger about them as Lacroix fires an effort over.
