Best Tweets: ‘Put Mohamed Salah on the bench and let Daniel Sturridge shine’
Daniel Sturridge had an eventful evening…
Just as we were prepping a reaction piece about one of the misses of the season, the (probably former) England striker redeemed himself with a lovely acrobatic finish to fire Liverpool into the lead against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup.
But first… more on that miss.
Sturridge was played in by a woeful back-pass from Andreas Christensen, but inexplicably fired wide after rounding Willy Caballero.
Obviously aware that a wave of “social media reacts to awful miss” articles, Sturridge quickly set about making amends.
And he did so in style, scoring with a bicycle kick after Caballero had parried Naby Keita’s shot into his path.
Let the praise commence:
OK. Steady on.
Awkwardly, it mattered little as Chelsea fought back to claim a 2-1 win.
