It felt for quite a while as though it was going to be a nightmare Sunday afternoon for Barcelona as they fell behind to Deportivo Alaves in their La Liga encounter. However, a brilliant brace from the talismanic Robert Lewandowski hauled them level and then eventually in front to clinch a very important victory. The visitors could not find a way back after falling behind to Barca.

Robert Lewandowski scored a second-half brace as Barcelona recovered from going behind in the first minute to beat Alaves.
Alaves' Samu Omorodion scored after 18 seconds, converting Javi Lopez's cross and then could have scored another three in the first half as he dominated the Barcelona defence, with Jules Kounde particularly struggling to deal with the on-loan Atletico Madrid striker's threat.
Booed off at half-time, the hosts came back out with more purpose and, moved to right back, Kounde put in a cross which Lewandowski headed home eight minutes after the break.
Still Alaves were not unduly under pressure before a rash attempted clearance from Abdal Abqar brought down substitute Ferran Torres in the penalty area as he was running away from goal.
Lewandowski's stuttering run-up saw Antonio Sivera commit himself and the Polish striker then struck the ball down the middle of the goal.
The win means Barcelona remain within four points of fellow Catalans Girona at the top of La Liga. Alaves stay in 14th spot.

Talking Point

Something not right at Barcelona? - For the second La Liga match in succession they have secured a victory which bordered on robbery. They look a side easy to attack against and with little punch going forward. Few players are performing anywhere near their ability level, even though the injury room has cleared with just the suspended Gavi and Frenkie de Jong missing. Xavi has a lot of thinking to do during the international break to find a system to suit his side. The lack of continuity in his team selections seems to have been a factor with seven changes from the Sociedad match to the defeat against Shakhtar Donetsk in midweek, then the same again for this match. The lack of cohesion, particularly in defensive areas, seemed to betray this in the first half.

Player of the Match

Samu Omorodion (Alaves) - What potential he has. There have been a few players dubbed the 'new Drogba', but he could be the most genuine comparison. With better finishing he would have had a hat-trick, at least, in the first half when he destroyed the Barcelona defence. Admittedly helped by what must be Kounde's worst game of his career and lapse organisation, but the lightning pace and natural strength of this 19-year-old could give defenders nightmares for years to come and will have Diego Simeone already thinking about what he can do for Atletico when he returns from loan next season.

Match Highlights

1' GOAL FOR ALAVES! The visitors take the lead within 18 seconds. Samu turns home from close range. Guridi robbed Gundogan in midfield and drove forward before playing in Javi Lopez on the left flank and his low cross was converted by Alaves' centre forward.
10' SAMU ISN'T FAR AWAY FROM A SECOND! Guridi and Rioja exchanging passes on the right flank before the latter put a ball towards the front post which Samu gets to in front of Martinez but this time he fires into the side-netting
14' SAMU THROUGH ON GOAL AGAIN! A straight forward ball to his feet 45 yards from goal in between Martinez and Kounde and he just raced through on goal but he put his effort wide of the target.
31' SAMU COULD EASILY HAVE A HAT-TRICK! Or even more. He was second favourite to get to a ball through the middle but he was stronger than Kounde, shoulder-barging him to get the ball but he fires over the bar with his left foot.
53' GOAL FOR BARCELONA! Lewandowski rises to superbly head home Kounde's cross to level for the hosts.
77' PENALTY FOR BARCELONA! That was a crazy challenge from Abqar. No need to make it at all as Ferran Torres was running away from goal.
78' GOAL FOR BARCELONA! Lewandowski stutters a couple of times in his run-up before striking the ball high down the middle of the goal.
