The former Tottenham attacker, who brought to an end his second spell at Hamburg at the end of last season, has signed a three-year deal with the Andalucians.

"I am very happy to come here," the Dutchman said on the club website. "It's a great club and I really want to start. For me it is a dream because my family lives in Chiclana, very close, and I like playing in Spanish football."

Van der Vaart spent two years at Tottenham from 2010 to 2012.

Betis were promoted back to La Liga last season.
