Beckham equalised Pedro Rodriguez's close-range opener with a bending set-piece from 30 yards on the stroke of half-time.
However Jeffren Suarez sealed victory for Barca in front of the biggest American crowd for a football match since the 1994 World Cup.
Beckham again suffered abuse from the American fans but following his goal received a better reception when he was substituted in the 87th minute.
"Quite a few are still reacting the way they react," he reflected. "But out of 93,000 people you have 95 or 97 per cent who are incredible. Then you have the odd minority - but that is life.
"Back in 1998 (following his red card against Argentina in the World Cup) it was 100 times worse and it affected me 100 times worse. This is nothing."
MLS commissioner Don Garber defended the England international, who has come under fire for extending his loan deal at Milan and therefore missing the opening of the domestic season with Galaxy.
"It has got to be an emotional time for David," said Garber. "The opposite of love is not hate. It is indifference.
"I don't support the way they (Galaxy fans) have treated him. We need to start to put all this behind us."
Beckham also revealed the reason for his confrontation with a supporter at a recent MLS game in Kansas City while pledging his future to the Californian outfit.
"He insulted my wife," he added. "If you insult my family members I am going to stick up for my wife and family.
"But if it happens again I wouldn't even look at him. It is not worth the time and energy.
"I am contracted to the Galaxy and the MLS and I will be here next year."
