"I will not be the coach of the team next season," Tapia said after Malaga lost 3-0 at Espanyol in their final match of the season.
"We have had a great campaign and I think it's the ideal moment to bring this cycle to a close," he added.
Tapia was promoted from reserve team coach when Gregorio Manzano was sacked in January 2005 and moved on halfway through the 2005-06 season before the club were relegated.
He returned again this term and eighth spot equalled their result in the 2000-01 season and was one short of their best finish of seventh in the 1970s.
