Betis sack Chaparro

The decision came after a 3-3 home draw with fellow strugglers Numancia on Saturday left Betis a point above the relegation places in 16th with nine games left to play.

The 66-year-old Chaparro (pictured) had been at the helm since he stepped up from the B team to replace Hector Cuper in December 2007 for his second spell in charge, but Saturday's result was their seventh game in a row without a win.

Nogues moves from the B team to take charge on Tuesday and his first match will be away to Racing Santander next weekend.
