Juventus winger Marko Pjaca is facing several months on the sidelines after tearing the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee.
The 21-year-old was on international duty with Croatia when he sustained the injury in the 65th minute of Tuesday night's friendly defeat to Estonia in Tallinn.
Tests on Wednesday morning revealed the full extent of the damage, with Pjaca set to undergo surgery which could rule him out for up to eight months.
A statement from the Croatian Football Federation read: "Croatia and Juventus player Marko Pjaca is facing a lengthy period off the pitch after the injury sustained in a friendly against Estonia.
"Today's MRI scan has confirmed this is a severe knee injury. Pjaca, in fact, suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and is awaiting surgery, with a recovery period of several months.
"Medical staff with the Croatian national team and Juventus are in constant contact and will jointly make decisions about further treatment on Pjaca's injury."
It is the second injury setback Pjaca has suffered this season, having missed two months of football due to a fractured fibula he also sustained on international duty in October.
