Police are investigating an incident that took place in the tunnel after Fleetwood Town’s match against Barnsley at Oakwell on Saturday.
In a since-deleted tweet, Barnsley forward Cauley Woodrow, who scored in the Tykes’ 4-2 win, alleged that Fleetwood boss Joey Barton had confronted counterpart Daniel Stendel, leaving the 45-year-old with “blood pouring from his face.”
Sky Sports News tweeted footage of the Barton being prevented from leaving the Highbury Stadium by police in the wake of the alleged incident.
And South Yorkshire Police would later confirm that they were aware of an incident and were investigating.
"We are aware of something that has taken place in the tunnel after the game and we are investigating," said a spokesperson.
Barnsley, in a statement posted on their website, confirmed they were assisting police with “an alleged incident in the tunnel area that took place following the conclusion of today’s match”.
