Chile players banned

Six Chile players have been banned from representing their country for 20 games after an incident at a hotel during the Copa America.
The senior internationals - all of whom play abroad - were punished for getting drunk, trashing a hotel room and verbally abusing female staff members at the hotel in Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela.
Pablo Contreras (29, Celta Vigo), Jorge Vargas (31, Salzburg), Reinaldo Navia (29, Atlas), Rodrigo Tello (27, Besiktas), Alvaro Ormeno (28, Gimnasia la Plata) and Jorge Valdivia (23, Palmeiras, pictured) will all be unavailable for selection until the final few qualifiers for the 2010 World Cup at the earliest.
The fateful night out was in celebration of their qualification for the quarter finals of the tournament - a match which they subsequently lost 6-1 to Brazil.
Chile coach Nelson Acosta has received a unspecified financial sanction for letting the players go out that night. The players are expected to appeal.
