Neymar's 60th goal for Brazil, scored from the penalty spot, gave them a 1-0 win over Uruguay.
Brazil's Alisson was the busier of the two goalkeepers but Neymar was presented with the opportunity mid-way through the second half when Diego Laxalt caught Danilo while trying to clear the ball.
A Uruguay defence that included two debutants had generally done a good job of limiting Brazil's chances up until that point, despite some eye-catching skills from Neymar early on.
Edinson Cavani squandered Uruguay's best chance, failing the make a good connection after Luis Suarez picked him out with a great cross, while Suarez had a free-kick well saved. Richarlison wasted a great Brazil chance late on.
Brazil have now won five games in a row since the World Cup.

TALKING POINT

This is Neymar’s team. He certainly didn’t have the World Cup he wanted, leaving Russia a comedy figure rather than a soon-to-be Ballon d’Or winner, but anyone who thought that could lead to Brazil to contemplate downgrading his role is mistaken, at least on this evidence. He’s wearing the captain’s armband, everything ran through him and he was out to entertain tonight. It looks as though Brazil's hopes of tournament success still rely heavily on his form.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Neymar (Brazil). He frequently dropped deep and all of Brazil’s best attacking moments came through him. He showed off frighteningly quick footwork on more than one occasion and while Brazil were lacking in end product, laying the blame for that at his door would be unfair and he was as cool as you like from the spot.

KEY MOMENTS

11’ – DISALLOWED GOAL! Some one-touch Brazilian passing looks to have broken down but instead the ball breaks for Luis on the left, who crosses for Neymar to tap in. The PSG man, however, is offside and the goal doesn't stand.
45’ – CHANCE! Luis Suarez picks out Cavani with a gorgeous cross towards the far post, however Cavani scuffs his volley and Alisson is able to keep it out.
50’ – SAVE! Luis Suarez curls the free-kick around the wall but not past Alisson, who is down to his left to tip the ball behind.
74’ – PENALTY! Laxalt goes to clear a bouncing ball but instead catches Danilo with a wild swing of his right leg and, eventually, the referee points to the spot.
76’ –GOAL! Brazil 1-0 Uruguay (Neymar). Neymar stutters in his run-up, sees the goalkeeper is going to dive to his right and slides the ball into the other corner. A cool penalty and Brazil lead.
83’ – CHANCE! Neymar cuts inside and picks out Richarlison with a delicious cross, but the Everton man can't put the game to bed and misses a sitter.
