Everton midfielders James McCarthy (hip) and Gareth Barry (shin) are unlikely to be risked in the Capital One Cup quarter-final at Middlesbrough.

Left-back Leighton Baines could be part of the matchday squad for the first time this season after ankle surgery, but will not play from the start.

Joel Robles will resume his role as cup goalkeeper, with Tim Howard dropping to the bench.
