Ukraine staged a dramatic comeback against Bosnia and Herzegovina to move one step closer to qualifying for Euro 2024.
Late goals from Roman Yaremchuk and Artem Dovbyk gave Ukraine a 2-1 victory at the Bilino Polje Stadium in Zenica, setting up a Path B play-off final against Iceland.
The hosts took the lead in the 56th minute after Dennis Hadzikadunic’s strike came off Ukrainian defender Mykola Matviyenko and wrong-footed goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.
Ukraine enjoyed the majority of possession but were unable to find a breakthrough, right up until the last 10 minutes of play.
Chelsea’s Mykhailo Mudryk was involved in Ukraine’s first goal in the 85th minute, hitting a cross field pass from the left wing to find Yukhym Konoplya, who then passed the ball into the penalty box for Yaremchuk to turn into the net.
Yaremchuk set up the second goal just three minutes later, finding the perfect cross for Dovbyk to head home and complete the comeback.
Standing in the way of Ukraine and a fourth European Championship appearance is Iceland, who also turned around a 1-0 deficit.
Hosts Israel had opened the scoring through Eran Zahavi in the 31st minute, but goals from Albert Gudmundsson and Arnor Ingvi Traustason saw Iceland take the lead before the first half was out.
Israel went down to 10 players in the 73rd minute when Haim Revivo was sent off, with Gudmundsson then completing his hat-trick in the second half to secure the victory for Iceland.
The Path B play-off final will be contested by Georgia and Greece. The former defeated Luxembourg 2-0 after two goals from Budu Zivzivadze, while the latter thrashed Kazakhstan 5-0.
Anastasios Bakasetas, Dimitrios Pelkas, Fotis Ioannidis, Dimitrios Kourbelis were all on the scoresheet, as well as an own goal from Yerkin Tapalov.
Poland also enjoyed a high-scoring match in their Path A play-off semi-final, beating Estonia 5-1.
Przemyslaw Frankowski opened the scoring for Poland in the first half, with Piotr Zielinski, Jakub Piotrowski and Sebastian Szymanski adding to their tally in the second half.
Karol Mets also scored an own goal, while Martin Vetkal hit a consolation for Estonia in the 78th minute, once Poland were already 5-0 up.
Up next for Poland are Wales, who earned a dominant 4-1 victory against Finland.
The play-off finals are all scheduled to take place on Tuesday, March 26.
