England took on Spain in the Euro 2024 final at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, as the men's team aimed to end 58 barren years without major tournament success.
The Three Lions and La Roja previously shared the underachiever tag for many years, with Spain ending their own 44 years of hurt with victory at Euro 2008.
That was their second Euros triumph after first winning the title in 1964, going on to win the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012 as part of an historic four-year spell of unprecedented glory.
Luis de la Fuente’s side were therefore aiming to secure a fourth European Championship for Spain, and victory meant that they became the competition’s outright most successful team, after previously sharing top spot with Germany with three titles each.
In contrast, England have never won a men’s Euros, with the match in 2024 their second consecutive defeat in a final after a penalty shoot-out defeat to Italy three years ago.
