Morocco slink out

Morocco, 2004's beaten finalists, slunk out of the tournament on Saturday with a sorry goalless draw against Libya. After failing to score a single goal, Mohamed Fakhir's side head home with their tails between their legs after rounding off the tournament

To be fair, Fakhir had very little time to organise his side after being given the thankless task of preparing for the tournament in only a month following the rapid hiring and firing of Philippe Troussier.
But his side did not help themselves as they allowed their emotions to boil over in a game which descended perilously close to a mass melée as the Tunisian referee's lax approach encouraged players to push the limits of legality.
With Marouane Chamakh uncharacteristically quiet and Youssoufs Hadji and Safri singularly short of inspiration, Morocco's abysmal record of failing to score in Egypt rarely looked like being improved despite Moha hitting a post.
Libya - widely expected to be the group's whipping boys - were surprisingly lively and could even have snatched a shock winner two minutes from time after Tarik El Taib's excellent ball released Ahmed Saad only for the striker to drift his shot wide of the far post.
