First-half goals from Patrice Bernier (18th minute), Ignacio Piatti (33) and Didier Drogba (39) saw Montreal advance to the Eastern Conference semi-finals, where they will face Columbus Crew in the first leg on Sunday.
Montreal's campaign has been bolstered by the arrival of former Chelsea striker Drogba, who has scored 12 goals in 12 games since joining the club in July.
He scored both goals in a 2-1 win over Toronto on Sunday that saw Impact finish the regular season in third.
Portland Timbers also booked their semi-final spot after an epic 7-6 penalty shootout win over Sporting Kansas City.
Kansas goalkeeper Jon Kempin saved three penalties but then missed the decisive kick as all 11 players stepped up to the spot.
It had ended 2-2 after 120 minutes in an enthralling contest which saw both sides grab late equalising goals.
Kansas sent the game to extra-time when Kevin Ellis cancelled out Rodney Wallace's opener in the 87th minute before a 118th-minute strike by Timbers' Max Urutti levelled after Krisztian Nemeth had put the visitors in front.
An amazing shootout ended on the 22nd kick as Kempin turned from hero to villain and Portland set up a Western Conference semi-final tie with FC Dallas.
