De Gea has described Casillas' absence from the Spanish squad as 'a bit strange' following the first international period where the Porto goalkeeper was absent from the squad without having suffered an injury.
De Gea has usurped Casillas as the country's first-choice goalkeeper, and the Porto shot-stopper was not called up to new manager Julen Lopetegui's first Spanish squad, with Pepe Reina and Adrian the two back-ups to De Gea.

"It's a bit strange to be here without Iker, he was the captain for so long," explained the 25-year-old to AS.
Casillas is Spain's record caps holder, appearing for his country on 167 occasions, but his form started to drop at Real Madrid and it hasn't really picked up since moving to Porto.
