Barcelona will take a narrow 2-1 lead into next week's Copa Del Rey quarter-final second leg, after getting the better of Athletic Bilbao at San Mames.
Goals from Munir El Haddadi and Neymar put Luis Enrique's side in control, although Aritz Aduriz's late finish gives the Basque club some hope ahead of the trip to the Camp Nou.
Lionel Messi missed out on the starting line-up, despite Barcelona’s insistence that the Argentine didn't sustain an injury in the weekend’s Liga win. Luis Suarez was also sidelined for the Catalans through suspension.
A fiery encounter was punctuated by a number of yellow cards shown to both sides, with tensions boiling over on more than one occasion. Neymar in particular was on the end of some rough treatment from the home side.
Aduriz’s late goal was opportunistic and was perhaps the least that Athletic Bilbao deserved on the balance of play, but Luis Enrique will still feel confident of his side’s chances in making the competition’s semi-finals. Neymar spoke post game about what Bilbao's efforts in the second half meant to the rest of the tie. "They could’ve complicated things for us, but we had a good game and play the second leg at home."Athletic didn’t let us score our third goal. We tried to play our game and they were the better side in the second half. They made things a little tougher for us." He also touched his disagreements with the Bilbao forward Inaki Williams after some heated challenges. "Things calmed down after the game. Sometimes the tackles were fair, others they weren’t. The referee is here to make those decisions.”

KEY EVENTS
15’ - HERRERIN MAKES THE SAVE FROM NEYMAR! That was a tricky one for the Athletic Bilbao keeper. The strike took a deflection off Williams, and he tips over his own crossbar.
18’ - GOAL! Athletic Bilbao 0-1 Barcelona. There's the opening goal of the game and it comes against the run of play! Rakitic's pass in behind the defence found Munir, who angled a finish past Herrerin.
25’ - GOAL! Athletic Bilbao 0-2 Barcelona. There's the second goal, and is that the tie over? A defensive calamity allows Neymar to race through, round the goalkeeper and finish into the empty net.
40’ - CHANCE FOR ERASO! The Barcelona defence is caught cold, with Eraso shooting over the target from 18 yards. He had Aduriz and Susaeta alongside though. He should have passed!
48’ - MUNIR SHOULD HAVE MADE IT THREE! Iniesta slots a pass right through the centre of the Athletic defence, but the youngster attempts to chip the keeper from distance. Herrerin makes the save.
49’ - SUSAETA TAKES THE SHOT ON HIMSELF! He could have squared it for Aduriz in the centre, but he took the shot and in the end Pique makes the big block to deny the forward.
50’ - ERASO SHOOTS JUST WIDE! This time Eraso squeezes an effort away from the edge of the box, but it flashes wide of the near post. I think Ter Stegen probably had it covered.
84’ - SABIN COMES CLOSE TO FINDING THE NET! The corner kick delivery was a wicked one, with Sabin glancing the ball on. But Ter Stegen was alert and makes the save at the near post.
85’ - SHOULD THAT HAVE BEEN A PENALTY? Williams goes down under the challenge of Mascherano in the box. He didn't get the ball, but did he get the man with his sprawling leg?
89’ - GOAL! Athletic Bilbao 1-2 Barcelona. They are still in the tie! Barcelona fail to clear their lines, San Jose finds Aduriz and the striker finishes from close range to give Athletic Bilbao some hope.
92’ - THAT WAS ALMOST THE EQUALISER! Sabin's deflected strike almost crept under the crossbar, but Ter Stegen was alert to the danger and did enough to push the ball over the target.

TALKING POINT
Is there anywhere on the pitch Sergi Roberto can’t play? It’s no longer a shock to see Sergi Roberto’s name on the Barcelona team sheet, given the impact he has made for the Catalans this season, but it was somewhat unusual to see him playing at left-back for this game. However, the youngster excelled - just as he has in the centre of midfield, on the right of midfield, at right-back and at centre-back. He is a modern day John O’Shea, but better - and certainly better looking.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Neymar (Barcelona): With Messi and Suarez missing for Barcelona, the onus in attack fell on Neymar - and just as we have come to expect, he delivered. He provided the Catalans with the spark they needed in the final third, setting the tempo of his side’s pressing and probing, stretching the pitch and creating space for others too. What is so impressive about Neymar is that much of what he does isn’t even acknowledged.
