The Arsenal was left out of the initial 22-man party to travel to Venezuela for the tournament starting on July 15th following a disappointing season at the Emirates Stadium.
However, he was drafted in after Ze Roberto quit ahead of a likely move back to former club Bayern Munich.
"Having represented the Brazilian national team for more than 12 years and 86 matches with commitment, dignity, loyalty and dedication, I have decided to end my international career," Ze Roberto said in a statement.
The rest of the squad remains unchanged from that announced last Wednesday, with star men Kaka and Ronaldinho both missing.
