The 22-year-old, who began his career at Southampton, was released by Yeovil this summer after two years at Huish Park.
Hoskins has also had loans spells at Preston, Rotherham, Stevenage and Barnet and manager Chris Wilder is pleased with his latest capture.
He told Northampton PlayerHD: "He'll not shirk the physical challenge, he is bright, he is enthusiastic and he has got a bit of pace.
"He has good movement and good ability and for a young player he knows where the back of the net is."
